A Growing Operation; Underperforming Equipment

In 2022, Brandon Christiansen was in his 14th season working with Crawford Valley Farms. The farm has been fertigating since 2004.

As the operation grew, it became more and more important to find ways to be efficient with their processes.

“The systems that we used before were constant monitoring, constant repair. We didn’t have time for that anymore, and we needed something that was going to be much more reliable.”

Another problem the operation encountered was effectively fighting insects.

“We haven’t had to fight spider mites in a long time. But…with planes, ground rigs or helicopters, you’re not going to get down there…those insects like to migrate in the bottom leaves.”

Saving Time, Better ROI

In 2016, Brandon and Crawford Valley made a change.

“In 2016, we decided it was time to move on and get something more robust, more reliable, better service, and we ended up selling all of our old pumps and just bought a whole Agri-Inject line. And that’s the best thing we’ve done… We just needed something we knew was easy to repair. If there was an issue, service was better. The yearly maintenance was almost nothing, and we wanted something that we set, start, and leave, and not come back until it was done — and feel good about leaving that device running on its own.

It saves unbelievable amounts of time. You set them. You forget them. They’re reliable. They do their job.”

More than just a time saver, Brandon noticed a significantly improved ROI using Agri-Inject systems.

“We felt that when we’ve done our tests, we’ve seen a much higher ROI with the [Agri-Inject] chemigation unit through the pivot…just because it can get all the way down to that bottom canopy, because you want to protect the entire plant with insecticide. You’re not going to get down there with a plane, ground rig or helicopter.

Which way is cheaper? Chemigation and it’s not even close. Our yields have gone up. You can put any nutrient on at any time, at any time of day…any time doesn’t matter.”
