Oil Change Instructions

PUMP DEFENDER™ APB

mRoy metering pumps are sensitive to oil level, since they use the oil to actuate the diaphragm as well as gear lubrication. It is important that the correct level of oil is installed and maintained in this type of pump.

DRAINING THE OIL

Ensure that you have a clean path for the oil to drain. It is recommended to remove the pump from the support base in order to keep the system clean during this process. Remove the oil drain plug on the side of the pump near the bottom rear of the housing. Remove the black oil fill cap on top of the pump to allow air into the housing. Allow all oil to drain completely prior to re-installing the oil plug. Remount the pump to the base if it was removed prior to draining.

FILLING THE PUMP WITH OIL

Using a funnel, slowly fill the pump with approximately one-half the recommended amount of PUMP DEFENDER™ APB oil (see the chart above). Turn the pump on and continue to slowly add oil until the oil fill cavity is approximately one-half full. While the pump is still running, slowly turn the micrometer knob in and out from 10% to 90% a couple of times. Turn the pump off and check the oil level. On pumps purchased after 2018, the sight glass on the side of the pump should read full. On mRoy A/P simplex/duplex and mRoy B simplex pumps with a dipstick on the oil fill cap, the dipstick has a full notch. All mRoy pumps have a full level indication cast into the outside of the housing. Ensure that the pump indications read full, but do not overfill the pump. The oil fill cavity should not be completely full to the top, or leakage will occur. mRoy pumps usually will not require the complete recommended amount on the table above due to residual oil left in the internal passages from previous use or testing.

PUMP DEFENDER™ 95G

MacRoy metering pumps are less sensitive to oil level than mRoy models, since the oil's primary purpose is for gear lubrication. However, it is important that the correct level of oil is installed and maintained in this pump for correct lubrication and to maintain warranty on the pump.

DRAINING THE OIL

Ensure that you have a clean path for the oil to drain. It is recommended to remove the pump from the support base in order to keep the system clean during this process. Remove the oil drain plug on the side of the pump near the bottom rear of the housing. Remove the orange oil fill cap on top of the pump to allow air into the housing. Allow all oil to drain completely prior to re-installing the oil plug. Remount the pump to the base if it was removed prior to draining.

FILLING THE PUMP WITH OIL

Using a funnel, fill the pump with the recommended amount of PUMP DEFENDER™ 95G oil (see the chart above) or until it reads full on the 'dipstick' on the orange fill cap. It is recommended to operate the pump for a few minutes and check the level again. Top off the pump to the full level as needed.

PUMP DEFENDER™ D629

Using a funnel, fill the pump with the recommended amount of PUMP DEFENDER™ D629 oil (see the chart above) or until the oil level is approximately 1/4 inch under the mouth of the fill port. Note: The orange oil fill cap does NOT have a dipstick. It is recommended to operate the pump for a few minutes and check the level again. Top off the pump to the full level as needed.
